Why Preventive Oncology?
Most cancers are more treatable—and often curable—when found early. Preventive Oncology focuses on:
Risk reduction: tobacco cessation, vaccinations, lifestyle guidance
Risk detection: age- and risk-appropriate screenings
Risk clarification: genetic counseling and targeted tests for high-risk families
Our multidisciplinary team (oncologists, physicians, genetic counselors, radiologists, pathologists, nutritionists, and psychologists) works together so your plan is personal, practical, and evidence-based.
What We Do
1) Comprehensive Risk Assessment
Personal & family history, exposure risks (tobacco, alcohol, environment)
Menstrual/reproductive history (for breast, ovarian, cervical risk)
Medication & comorbidity review (diabetes, obesity, hepatitis, etc.)
2) Screening & Early Detection
Breast: clinical breast exam, screening mammogram/ultrasound as indicated
Cervical: Pap smear/HPV testing
Oral cavity: oral visual exam (for tobacco/betel-nut users)
Colorectal: stool test/colonoscopy per age & risk
Prostate: shared decision-making for PSA (as appropriate)
Lung: low-dose CT for eligible high-risk smokers/ex-smokers
Liver: ultrasound and AFP for hepatitis B/C or cirrhosis
3) Vaccinations
HPV vaccine (prevents most cervical and some other HPV-related cancers)
Hepatitis B vaccine (reduces risk of liver cancer)
4) Genetic Counseling & High-Risk Clinics
For families with early-onset or multiple related cancers
BRCA and other gene panel testing where appropriate
Tailored surveillance and preventive strategies
